Soccer Star

I can't believe how long it's been since the last post!
Well, May is upon us, spring appears to be asserting itself, and U-10 outdoor soccer has started.

Will's first game was yesterday. Huge adjustment for the kids moving up an age group. Will continues to show us what a competitor he is- very sound defensively, a good positional player. Smart, too- he is showing serious ability to read a play and challenge the opposition.

The other team was very good. Our Cougars had yet to score by half time. Will came by to vent about not having a shift at midfield yet. So, his next stint was at forward and I was amazed by his determination to keep the ball in the attacking zone. The boys got forced back to midfield, and there was Will, stripping an opponent of the ball, rushing up the sidelines, dodging defenders, and putting his team's first goal behind the line.

OK, so clearly, that is not my son. But imagine an eight-year old, playing on a quarter-sized pitch, seven kids per side. You get the idea.

Watch out, Messi!
